Electric Avenue #8 – 6 Month Update of My Kia EV6

Episode #8 of my YouTube channel is live. In this episode, I cover the following:

  • July 2023 EV sales
  • Recent EV news and launches
  • Deep Dive – A 6 month update of my ownership of the Kia EV6
  • EV car spotting – BMW iX

Since the video was published many people have asked me many questions around the OpEx (operating expense) aka running cost calculations I covered in the video.

I own a Hyundai Creta that I bought in 2017 and have kept a log of every time I fill petrol to understand what mileage/average I get. I have driven over 31,501 kilometers and the average I get is 8.47 kilometers per liter. As of August 2023, it costs about Rs. 106.25 per liter. So when you run the numbers it comes to Rs. 12.54 per kilometer.

When I compare the last 3 months of my Kia EV6, I have used 250 kWh’s from my electricity provider which is BEST. And the total cost was Rs. 2,255 which comes to Rs. 9 per kWh. According to the stats that my EV6 is providing, I’m getting about 5 km per kWh. When you calculate this out it comes to Rs. 1.80 per kilometer…close to an 85% reduction in OpEx (operating expenses) aka running costs of the EV6 vs. Creta.
